Worship

These words from Philippines guide worship: “Rejoice in the Lord always.  I will say it again.  Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all.  The Lord is near.  Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.  And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

Worship has a central place in the life of Calvary church. Each Sunday, the congregation gathers to praise God, through singing, scripture, and prayer. In worship, we seek to experience God and be changed by that experience so that when we leave worship, we can more closely walk the paths as God directs us.

Worship at Calvary is full of variety. Traditional Presbyterian worship takes place most weeks, and on fifth Sundays Calvary enjoys a less traditional style of worship, such as coffeehouse style worship and "workship."

In addition to the pastor, a variety of lay leaders participate in worship leadership each week. Worship is enhanced through organ, piano, and guitar music on a regular basis. While the music program is small, it is well planned and its spirituality is vital to the worshipping community.

Children and Worship

Children, with all their movement and noise are welcome in worship at Calvary. It is common for at least one child to be up front, playing or just getting a better view during much of worship. In worship, there is a "Time with Children," a message specifically created for concrete thinkers often using stories, art, or objects. After the Time with Children, children are given the choice to go downstairs to education, or stay in the sanctuary for worship. Two background-checked adults are with children who choose to go to education at all times.
